At SYU Kitsilano, the signage was treated as part of the architecture rather than a standalone branding element. The goal was to create something understated and intentional that could sit naturally within the space’s raw concrete and warm material palette without disrupting its calm atmosphere. The matte black metal lettering was designed to rely on shadow, proportion, and restraint rather than illumination or oversized visibility. A large part of the process focused on preserving the delicacy of the typography while translating it into a physical form that still felt lightweight and refined. Through careful attention to proportion, spacing, and mounting depth, the sign becomes a natural extension of the architecture—subtle in presence yet unmistakably connected to the brand.
